Mexico is a business-friendly environment with much to offer to US firms.
Mexico's economy is the 12th largest in the world, with a gross domestic product that surpassed a
trillion dollars in 2007. It is also a fiscally stable economy; the Mexican Central Bank has the highest
level of U.S. dollar reserves in history, at more than 90 billion dollars. Mexico has a free market and
export-oriented economy and is firmly established as an advanced middle-income country.
According to the World Bank's latest available figure (September 14, 2007), it has the highest income
per capita in Latin America. Mexico is the only Latin American member of the Organization for Economic
Co-operation and Development. The service sector is the largest component of GDP at 70.5%, and employs 58%
of the active population. Mexico's service sector is strong, and in 2001 replaced Brazil's as the largest
service sector in Latin America in dollar terms.
Mexico offers sustainable, stable economic advantages for organizations seeking efficiency in labor
costs. The Mexican inflation rate has averaged just 4% per year - the lowest figure in Latin America - making
cost forecasting easy and reliable. Companies concerned about foreign exchange effects on outsourcing costs
can confidently choose Mexico as a solution. The exchange rate between the Mexican peso and the U.S. dollar
has not moved more than 10% in the last ten years - a lower volatility level than either the euro or the yen.
Mexico also ranks fourth for business freedom among countries in the Americas, according to the 2008 Index
of Economic Freedom (behind only the United States, Canada, and Barbados) - and ranks first among predominantly
Spanish-speaking countries in the same ranking, ahead of Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Honduras.
Mexico City is also one of the largest cities in the world, with all the infrastructure of any major city.
Mexico City is just few hours away from most major U.S. metropolitan areas making it geographically manageable,
both remotely and onsite. This is a very important point, especially for near-shore development for enterprise
solutions.
Mexico City is also located within the Central Time (CT)
time zone; this geographical location makes real time interaction
with US companies very manageable.
